Abstract:

American Indians per square mile in Montana, 1990. Derived from U.S. Census Bureau 1990 TIGER files and population counts. The original data was smoothed, and the highest resulting density in each 1-kilometer grid cell was assigned to the cell.

Convert 57 Montana TIGER files to Arc/Info format, dissolve polygons to create Census Blocks, and relate Census Block numbers to the Public Law 94-171 files.

Convert the 57 Census Block coverages to 100m grid cells based on density of Indian population. Set the value of each cell to be the mean value of its 81 nearest neighbors.
